Look up who registered a domain or owns an IP block

Queries the public WHOIS registry for a domain (registrar, owner, creation/expiry dates) or an IP address (which organisation the block was allocated to). -h lets you ask a specific WHOIS server instead of the default one.

Usage

Options and flags

• target

  the domain name or IP address to look up

• -h, --host SERVER

  query this specific WHOIS server instead of the default one

Examples

• whois example.com

  Registrar, owner and expiry date for example.com.

• whois 8.8.8.8

  Which organisation this IP address block was allocated to.

• whois -h whois.verisign-grs.com example.com

  Ask that one specific registry server directly, instead of letting whois pick one for you.
